GIOD Project Phases
Work on the project is divided into four phases which cover the two years for which it is approved:
- Phase 0: Install and test the ODBMS being used by RD45, and make scaling tests to both confirm the results obtained by RD45 and to extend them into new regimes. The target platform is primarily the SPP2000, but other platforms will also be used.
- Phase 1: Install the CMS software environment, including the simulation program CMSIM, and the new OO-based code. Run production simulation on the SPP2000. Test and develop the new codes. Demonstrate that the SPP2000 can be used as a general purpose machine for HEP tasks.
- Phase 2: Marry the HPSS system at Caltech with the ODBMS, and evaluate the optimisation and support for the various Object caching levels. Investigate and improve the usability of the HEP data when stored in this way.
- Phase 3: Evaluate the systems as a model Regional Centre. Optimise the use of the systems as a function of their size, network connectivity to CERN and other institutes. Test deployment of wide area ODBMS replication. Identify crucial areas for future work or investment.
