The alternator is an original Lucas model. It was a bit rattley, and this turned out to be due to the fan, which was a little loose. Cured by simply tightening the bolt on the pulley.
The windscreen washer switch was faulty. The rocker wouldn't stay inside the switch body as the tabs were broken. I took it apart and repaired it by drilling a hole through the body and rocker and inserting a pin as the pivot.
